At least five people are dead following a larger earthquake of the northern coast of Chile. The magnitude 8.2 quake generated a tsunami 1 with waves of more than two meters hitting Chile's coastline. Tens of thousands of people were forced to flee to higher ground.
The search zone for the missing Malaysian Airlines plane MH370 has again been broadened. The search area has now doubled the size it was yesterday. A British navel ship has joined the international effort to find possible debris 2 from the plane. But Malaysia has warned that the reason behind its disappearance 3 may never be known.
The Australian manufacturing sector 4 has been dealt twin blows with petroleum 5 giant BP planning to ax more than 350 jobs when it shuts down its Brisbane fuel refinery 6 next year. BP says it can't compete against chief production in Asia. And the tobacco company Philp Morris has announced that it will shift its manufacturing operations in Melbourne to South Korea at the end of the year. Nearly 200 people will lose their jobs.
And the NRL judiciary has found Melbourne Storm's Jordon Mclean guilty of a dangerous throw of his part of the tackle that left Newcastle's McKinnon with a broken neck.
