  1.The weather is cold.
  It’s quite/awfully/severely cold.
  It is biting/bitterly cold.
  It’s really piercing cold.
  It’s freezing cold.
  Notes: 一种表达方法是在cold前加上修饰语,表示冷的程度,上述的quite(相当),awfully(非常), severely(严重地), biting(刺痛的), bitterly(残酷地)和freezing(冰冻的)都加深了冷的程度。
  It cooled down.
  It became very chilly 1.
It is beginning to feel like winter.
  The outside is icy.
  It is frigid 2.
The temperature dropped very low this evening.
  It’s freezing outside.
  cool down
We have to cool the soup down to make the dish.
It was not easy for her to cool down after that argument.
  It was a chilly evening.
  2. How do you feel?
  I was freezing to death.
She shivered because of the cold.
I have goose bumps all over in the cold wind.
  I am frostbitten.
  Notes: to death
The soldiers would rather fight to death than surrender.
She was shivering like a leaf sitting there.
A shiver of joy passed through her stomach when she heard the news.
  goose bumps
  frostbitten
His frostbitten fingers look quite scary.
  3. How do we conquer the coldness?
  She bundled up.
We need to bundle up against the cold.
  It snowed heavily.
Snowflakes are fluttering in the air.
We had snowfalls throughout the week.

  Notes:

例: They were snowed in the village for three days.
  make/build a snowman

  lose track of
They lost track of each other because of the war.
