China is getting tougher on pollution by lowering the criteria 1 to define related crimes.
he Supreme 2 People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuratorate have issued interpretations 4 of what constitutes such crimes. A pollution case will be defined as a crime if it poisons more than 30 persons, slightly injures more than three, and severely 5 injures more than one.
A case will be deemed the most severe if involves more than one death, when previously 6 it was three. The interpretation 3 also sets standards for punishment, including for the mishandling of radioactive, infectious, and poisonous wastes.
