A new round of freezing rain has hit southwest China’s Guizhou province, leading to icy roads, disrupting traffic in many areas.
Traffic was suspended in 21 counties as the rain coupled with snowfall forced the closure of several highways, stranding 1 hundreds of vehicles and passengers. Ice accumulated on electric wires in 8 counties, raising the risk of massive blackouts. The National Meteorological Center forecasts snow and rain will continue to sweep Guizhou and neighbouring Yunnan province over the coming three days. Drivers and passengers have been advised to take precautions.
