British Prime Minister David Cameron will arrive in China Monday at the head of a 100-strong trade delegation 1. The move represents a warming of relations between the two countries. Cameron will include in his three-day tour the Chinese capital, Beijing, and the country’s financial centre in Shanghai.

David Cameron leaves behind a country getting dressed up for the holiday season.

The Prime Minister’s economic dilemma 2, of course, everything under the Christmas tree is made in China.

Shopkeepers in London’s ’Luxury Quarter’ want him to bolster 3 brand Britain on his visit.

For the British Prime Minister this flight to China is an unabashed sales pitch.

Accompanied by more than 100 business leaders, it is the biggest trade mission in modern Sino-British history.

The aim, to redress 4 a trade balance that heavily favors China.

In short, the British economy needs exports.

According to Bank of England governor Mark Carney, the UK’s resurgent economic growth is overly reliant on consumer spending and consequent household debt.

When in China, Cameron will be building on the success last month of the visit by Britain’s Chancellor 5 of the Exchequer 6 George Osborne and the Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Both came away with high profile deals.

Multi-billion dollar infrastructure 7 projects, which underscored strengthening Sino-British business ties; even if political friendships need careful tending.

After the economic helter skelter of the last few years David Cameron is hoping to come away with something of a Christmas bonus from his China visit. British Business and British industry will be watching carefully.
