The Fed says it made the decision using emergency powers. American Express will now have a greater ability to tap into the Federal bailout funds. Last month, the company laid off 10% of its global work force.
A sudden end to the expensive Mars lander mission. A dust storm in the beginning of the Martian winter has brought about that end. NASA lost contact with the lander last week, and, they aren't expected to be reconnecting again. It was thought the lander wouldn't last through the winter. The Phoenix 7 landed on Mars May 25th.
Authorities in Taiwan have detained the former president after 5 hours of questioning from prosecutors 8. Chen Shui Bian is being investigated on money laundering 9 and corruption 10 charges. Chen has denied wrongdoing. The former president shouted "long live Taiwanese democracy "As he was being led away.
