You use all that good common sense
你使用所有这些好的常识
And you don't make excuses
你不会找借口
You work hard
你会加倍努力
And you always finish what you start
你将总能善始善终
And no matter what, you give everybody a fair shake
而且不管什么情况 你都会给每个人公正待遇
And when somebody needs a hand, you offer yours
当某人需要帮助时 你会伸出援助之手
See, those are the gifts my parents gave me
这些就是我父母给我的恩赐
Their values
他们的价值观
And I quickly learned that those gifts
我很快就意识到 这些恩赐
were far more valuable than money or connections
远远比金钱或人脉更有价值
Because once I got to college
因为我到大学后
I found that when I applied all those values to my studies
我发现 当我把这些价值观运用到学习中时
I was able to develop an entirely new set of skills

that I would use for the rest of my life

Skills like resilience, problem solving, time management

I learned to turn stumbles and misstep into the sources of motivation
我学会将谬误和过失转化为前进的动力
A week with three tests and two papers
一周三次考试 两篇论文
wasn't a reason to stress out
不是累趴下的理由
but a reason to plan
而是说你要好好计划
A negative comment from a professor in class wasn't a reason to shut down
课上来自教授的批评不是你闭嘴的原因
but a reason to ask even more questions
而是说你需要问更多的问题
Most importantly, I realized that what really mattered
最重要的是 我意识到真正要紧的
wasn't how much money my parents made
不是我父母赚多少钱
or what those people in my high school said about me
也不是高中那些人怎么说我
What mattered was what was in my mind and what was in my heart
要紧的是我的思想里 我的心中 都有些什么
So, my four years in school gave me the confidence
我的大学四年 给了我自信
to know that if I could make it on a college campus
让我知道 如果我能在大学校园取得成功
I can make it anywhere
我就能在任何地方取得成功
So graduates, this day is huge for kids like us
毕业生们 这一天对我们这样的孩子来说很重要
