无论黑人 白人 还是棕色人种
To advocate for an America where everybody has got a fair shot in life
我们要让所有美国人 都拥有平等的生存机会
Not just some. Not just a few
不是部分人 更不是少数人
But along with collective responsibilities, we have individual responsibilities
不过除了集体责任 我们还有个人责任
There are some things, as black men, we can only do for ourselves
有些事情 作为黑人 我们只能自己来做
There are some things, as Morehouse men
有些事情 作为莫尔豪斯人
That you are obliged to do for those still left behind
你们有义务为那些被落下的人来做
As Morehouse men, you now wield something even more powerful
作为莫尔豪斯人 除了文凭之外
Than the diploma you're about to collect
你们手中还有更强有力的东西
And that's the power of your example
也就是你们作为榜样的力量
So what I ask of you today
我今天对你们的要求
is the same thing I ask of every graduating class I address:
和我在任何毕业典礼上的要求一样
Use that power for something larger than yourself

Live up to president Mays's challenge

Be "sensitive to the wrongs, the sufferings, and the injustices of society"

And be "willing to accept responsibility for correcting those ills"

I know that some of you came to Morehouse from communities
我知道 到莫尔豪斯之前 你们有些人在社区中
Where life was about keeping your head down and looking out for yourself

Maybe you feel like you escaped, and now you can take your degree and get that fancy job and the nice house and the nice car

And never look back
再也不用回顾往事
And don't get me wrong
不要误解我的意思
With all those student loans you've had to take out
很多人还有大量助学贷款要还
I know you've got to earn some money
我知道你们需要挣钱
With doors open to you
世界向你们敞开大门
That your parents and grandparents could not even imagine
你们的父母以及祖辈肯定不愿想象
No one expects you to take a vow of poverty
读完了书你们还要坚守贫穷
