And when the markets in Europe closed a couple of hours ago, London's FTSE was down around 26 points. Ah, whereas 1 in Germany, the Dax went in the opposite direction. Ah, but across the board, fairly flat in Europe. In the US, and as trading comes to an end at the end of the week, as we can see, the Dow is down 41 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq also in negative territory.
And in currencies, the Aussie dollar is worth just over 90 U.S. cents and just over 54 British pence.
There's been a broad sell-off on the local sharemarket with big miners and banks leading the falls. The All Ordinaries Index closed 81 points lower at 5347 and the ASX 200 has given up 1.5 percent at the end of the week and to end at 5329. Mining heavyweight BHP Billiton lost two percent. All the banks were down. Westpac was off the most, losing 1.7 percent.
