1. Hurricane Earl is getting closer. Residents in North Carolina have been doing last-minute preparations and getting out. The Category 3 storm with 125-mile-per-hour winds is expected to pass close to the Outer Banks overnight on its way to New England and coastal 1 Canada. Massachusetts' governor has declared a state of emergency.
2. Firefighting vessels 2 are battling a blaze on an oil platform off Louisiana Coast. The coast guard says all 13 people who were aboard the platform were rescued by a boat.
3. Israeli and Palestinian leaders have agreed to keep talking. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced another round of peace talks later this month in Egypt.
