China has reaffirmed its stance on the disputed Diaoyu Islands. At a press briefing on Thursday, the Defense 1 Ministry 2 said the islands are part of China, and that China is more than capable of defending its own territory.
"We are paying close attention to the military moves by the Japanese side. At the same time, Chinese military forces will continue to patrol relevant areas. Again, I want to emphasize that the Diaoyu Islands are China's inherent territory. Chinese armed forces are capable of defending the islands. There is no need to bother other countries, or for other nations to be concerned about security. Japan likes to dramatize the situation, and exaggerate what the US can offer," Yang Yujun, spokesman of Chinese Defense Ministry, said.
