The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has threatened to carry out a "new form of nuclear test" in response to US President Barack Obama’s visit to Asia.

The country's official KCNA news agency quoted a Foreign Ministry 1 statement, saying the US has brought "the dark clouds of nuclear war to the country". It says the DPRK will continue to bolster 2 its nuclear deterrent 3, and carry out a "new form of nuclear test" as part of its inviolable right to self-defense.

The statement also blasted Obama’s tour, calling it "dangerous", aimed at tightening 4 the US grip on the Asia-Pacific and bringing confrontation 5 to the region. The DPRK conducted nuclear tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013, despite an international test ban, sanctions, and strong criticism.
