Telling her parents that she wanted to write a letter to God, four-year-old Meredith dictated 2 a note to her mother and together they traveled down to their post office in Brook 3 Hollow, Texas to post it.
Two weeks later to their amazement 4, the family returned home to find a package wrapped in gold on their front porch addressed to 'Mer' and signed 'God, and one of his special angels.'
Inside the mysterious package was a book titled 'When a Pet Dies' by Fred Rogers and note, clearly sent in reply to the little girl's plea to God to 'please take care of my dog'
Parents Joy and Greg were stunned 5 as well as touched that someone at their post office would go through so much trouble to help their little girl.
Meredith, however, was less than surprised by the special delivery, according to her mom.
'When she received the package, she was happy, but she wasn't surprised,' she said. 'There was no doubt in Meredith's mind that her letter was going to heaven.'
Meredith is said to have recovered from her heart-breaking loss, and to have since welcomed the addition of a collie and terrier into their household.
'She's doing great,' Mrs Scrivener told My San Antonio in 2010. 'She still has a big heart for animals.'
MEREDITH'S LETTER TO HEAVEN AND THE HEARTWARMING REPLY小梅尔迪斯寄往天堂的信和收到的温馨回信Dear God,亲爱的上帝:
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her, you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
  Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.
Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.
Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping 6 you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.
I send my blessings 7 every day and remember that I love you very much.
By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.
  Love,God
