Full coverage 1: Crisis in Syria Syrian government airstrikes destroyed a vegetable market in a northern rebel-held town Thursday, killing 2 at least 25 people and wounding scores of others.
According to opposition 3 activists 4, Syrian fighter jets hit the crowded market in the Aleppo province town of Atareb early in the morning. The Britain-based, Syrian Observatory 5 for Human Rights said the death toll 6 is likely to rise because many of the victims were seriously wounded.
Atareb is located near the city of Aleppo, Syria’s largest urban center, and a major battleground in the civil war. Since the Syrian conflict began in March 2011, more than 150,000 people have been killed, and millions have fled their home.
