The three-party meeting on preparation work for the Geneva Conference on Syria has failed to reach an agreement.
Representatives from the United Nations, Russia and the United States met in Geneva on Tuesday, for a second preparatory meeting on the Syria crisis 1. Russian Deputy 2 Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said the parties disagree on many questions, including the dates and participants. There was no agreement on who would represent the Syrian opposition 3, and whether Iran would be at the table.
The UN issued a statement following the meeting, saying the discussions were constructive 4, and focused on ways to ensure the Geneva Conference could take place with the best chances of success. The UN also said it came to light in the meeting that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry would meet next week.
