On Sunday, both Chelsea and Manchester City were looking to keep pace with league leading Arsenal 1 after the Gunners' impressive 3-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday. That win for Arsenal moved them seven points clear of second placed Chelsea, and nine clear of third placed Man City heading into play yesterday.
Chelsea though, went behind Southampton just 13 seconds in as Jay Rodriguez took advantage of a Michael Essien error to give the visitors a shock lead at Stamford Bridge, and for a while it looked as if Chelsea might just be on their way to their first ever home league defeat under Mourinho.
However, defender 2 Gary Cahill equalised in the 55th minute after John Terry’s header found the post, and just seven minutes later Terry celebrated 3 his 400th Premier 4 League with a towering header to make it 2-1, before striker Demba Ba added a third late as Chelsea win 3-1 and do not allow Arsenal to gain any more ground atop the standings.
Man City had a much easier time of it against Swansea City. Alvaro Negredo curled in an eighth-minute free kick to give City the lead, and then they would get a second half brace 5 from Samir Nasri as they cruised to a 3-0 win and are now six points back of Arsenal once again.
Elsewhere around the Premier League on Sunday, Wayne Rooney equalised twice for United in a 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur, while Hull 6 City made the history of their own, beating Liverpool for the first time in club history.
