Senior Russian officials have slammed US and EU sanctions on their country, imposed over the Ukraine crisis. Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov says the US has lowered an "Iron Curtain" by targeting Russia’s high-tech 1 sector 2. He also said the EU has proved that it's "under Washington’s thumb." Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says the sanctions defy common sense and are the work of "weak politicians in the West".
"We reject these sanctions, in particular those that were sponsored by the United States and the European Union, which are against all common sense. These are attempts to put the blame on other people - and this is the reaction of weak politicians.... politicians who have now discovered that their geopolitical ambitions have failed and so are trying to pin the blame on others," Sergei Lavrov said.
