Plans to merge 1 the stock markets of London and Frankfurt as the world's third biggest financial marketplace have cleared an important hurdle 3.
The proposed merger to create iX has been approved by the Deutsche Boerse.
The decision was reached at a meeting of the supervisory board of the exchange where 17 members voted for the merger. There were four abstentions with no votes against the merger.
The London Stock Exchange has already approved the merger.
Deutsche Boerse chairman Rolf Breuer said the next step would be a meeting of both partners, probably in September some time.
Shareholders 4 must still sign off on the deal. Both exchanges need approval from 75% of the shareholders; neither side has yet scheduled a vote.
