 　　"What happened?" asked Helmholtz Watson.

　　“后来怎么啦？”赫姆霍尔兹.华生问。
　　The Controller sighed. "Very nearly what's going to happen to you young men. I was on the point of being sent to an island."
　　总统叹了一口气。“几乎跟你们面临的遭遇一样，年轻人。我几乎给送到了一个小岛上。”
　　The words galvanized Bernard into violent and unseemly activity. "Send me to an island?"
　　一句话吓得伯纳魂不附体，做出了不体面的过分行为。“送我到岛子上去？”
　　He jumped up, ran across the room, and stood gesticulating in front of the Controller.
　　他蹦了起来，穿过屋子，来到总统面前比划着。
　　You can't send me. I haven't done anything. lt was the others. I swear it was the others.
　　你不能够送我去，我什么也没有做，都是别人做的，我发誓是这样的。
　　He pointed 1 accusingly to Helmholtz and the Savage 2.
　　他指着赫姆霍尔兹和野蛮人。
　　Oh, please don't send me to Iceland. I promise I'll do what I ought to do.
　　啊，请别把我送到冰岛去。该做什么我保证都做。
　　Give me another chance. Please give me another chance.
　　再给我一个机会吧，求求你啦！
　　The tears began to flow. "I tell you, it's their fault," he sobbed 3. "And not to Iceland. Oh please, your fordship, please …"

　　Mustapha Mond tried to make him get up; but Bernard persisted 5 in his grovelling 6;

　　The fourth secretary went out and returned with three green-uniformed twin footmen.
　　第四秘书出去了，带回来三个穿绿色制服的多生子下人。
　　Still shouting and sobbing 7. Bernard was carried out.
　　伯纳叫喊着抽泣着被带了出去。
　　"One would think he was going to have his throat cut," said the Controller, as the door closed.
　　人家还以为要割他的喉咙了呢，”门关上时总统说，

　　That's to say, he's being sent to a place where he'll meet the most interesting set of men and women to be found anywhere in the world.
　　那就是说他要被送到一个他可以遇见世界上最有趣的男男女女的地方去。

　　have got too self-consciously individual to fit into community-life.
