He and his forces are beaten by British and Prussian troops at the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium. The defeat forces Napoleon into exile 3 for the second and last time.


1812The United States declares war on Britain just decades after winning its independence from London. What becomes known as the War of 1812 lasts more than two and a half years.
1928Amelia Earhart becomes the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The aviator 4 completes a non-solo flight from Newfoundland, Canada to Wales in about 21 hours.
1983Astronaut Sally Ride becomes America's first woman in space blasting 5 off aboard the space shuttle Challenger.
And 1942"Yesterday, all my troubes seem so faraway."Singer-songwriter Paul McCartney, former member of the rock band The Beatles is born in Liverpool, England.
