March 3rd 1991 - In Los Angeles, a scene caught on amateur videos which sparks an outcry in the United States. Police officers severely 1 beat black motorist Rodney King after he is stopped for speeding.
The following year, the 4 white officers charged in the beating are acquitted 2 of almost all state charges.
That triggers the Los Angeles Riots which killed 55 people and caused $1 billion in property damage.
1847 - Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, is born in Edinburgh, Scotland.
1931 – Oh say, can you see, the Star Spangled Banner officially becomes the national anthem 3 of the United States.
1923 – Henry Luce and Briton Hadden begin publishing TIME – the America’s first major weekly news magazine.
And 2005 – Steve Fossett becomes the first person to fly around the world alone without stopping or refueling.
