To the markets, Wall Street jumped on a pick-up in consumer confidence and positive company profit numbers:
By the close of trade, the Dow Jones Industrial average added 187 points or 1.1%, S&P 500 Index rose 1.2% or 23 points to 1985, and the Nasdaq surged 1.8 to end at 4,564.
Looking at commodity prices:
West Texas Crude is trading at 81 US dollars a barrel. And Tapis is at 89. Gold is trading at 1,228 US dollars an ounce. And the Aussie dollar is buying 88 US cents, 70 euro cents and 55 pence sterling 1.
