 The Prime Minister has intervened to reverse controversial restrictions 1 on women wearing facial coverings in Parliament. The new rules sort of segregate 2 the women who covered their faces behind glass barriers in Parliament's public galleries. The ruling sparked a media outcry inside and outside the Parliament. 


 
We can't afford to have a division and a splitting off of people behind glass screens in the middle of a place that's supposed to bring us together. 
 
A man is recovering in a Perth hospital this morning after being attacked by a shark. Twenty-three-year-old Sean Pollard was surfing at a beach near Esperance on Western Australia's south coast yesterday when he was attacked. It's understood he lost one arm and a significant part of the other one. 
 
The country's Attorneys General and police ministers are gathering 3 in the Victorian city of Geelong for talks on national security. Representatives from ASIO and the Federal Police will address the meeting. The ministers will be briefed on the recent anti-terror raids and the Federal Government's new national security laws. 
 
And a policeman has been shot in the leg with his own gun in Melbourne's north. The officer went into a hotel room at Creston last night where a man was threatening to harm himself. The gun went off during a subsequent struggle. A 43-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and will face court today.
