Our ability to cure disease or log onto the Internet have been advanced because of politically determined 5 investments. Ethnic 6 cleansing 7 in Kosovo ended because of political leadership. Your parents and grandparents traveled here by means of government built and subsidized transportation systems. Many used GI Bills or government loans, as I did, to attend college.

2009年1月21日，希拉里·克林顿在美国首都华盛顿宣誓就任美国国务卿。美国参议院当天以94票对2票的绝对优势，批准奥巴马总统关于希拉里担任国务卿的提名。
希拉里在就职之后的首次出访选择了亚洲，而第一个出访的国家是日本，中国是最后一站。
在参议院的全院投票中，奥巴马关于希拉里出任国务卿的提名以九十四票赞成二票反对顺利获得确认。投反对票的两位议员分别是路易斯安那州共和党议员大卫·威特和南卡州的共和党参议员吉姆·德敏特。在全院投票之前，民主党领袖呼吁参议员通过奥巴马新政府的这一重要任命，以便新政府可以尽快从事重要的外交布局。参议院民主党领袖说，美国新政府急需在伊拉克和阿富汗两个战场、中东暴力冲突和伊朗核计划等敏感问题上开展工作。
