I asked nothing， only stood at the edge of the wood behind the tree.

　　我一无所求，只站在林边树后。

　　诗歌赏析：
　　诗人一开篇就吟出心曲———“我一无所求”。为何“我一无所求”呢？因为“我”已经拥有，拥有了最凡俗也是最宝贵的生活。高大的榕树，开满繁花的芒果树，曲折的村径，清澈的池塘，多么原始而又美丽的乡村风光！汩汩的流水声，女人钏镯的叮当声，蜜蜂的嗡嗡声，鸟儿的歌唱声，朝拜者的颂经声，庙里的锣声，构成了一曲最质朴最自然的天籁之音。挤奶，汲水，赶牛群，颂经文，多么勤劳的邻里乡亲！多么简单却悠闲自在的生活方式！
　　诗人选取了乡村早晨的特定时刻，由静而动，由近而远地绘出了一幅恬淡、宁静、原始而有生机的田园牧歌式的画卷。最有趣的是，诗人自己也身处这幅画卷中，而且是诗中一个最独特的意象。说其独特，是因为诗中的“我”始终站立着，静止着，这是外部形态上的意象特征，同时也是解读诗人内心世界的关键。这种静立，可以理解为，诗人沉浸其中，在享受这美好的晨光，享受这田园的生活，这是诗的表象，亦即浅层意境。但是，诗人的情感、思想却始终在奔涌着、流动着。
　　诗人虽然在形式上，用了“我”向“你”倾诉的对话样式，“我我你你”遍布全诗，但是，这决不仅仅是在向亲密的爱人倾诉，同时也是在向大自然倾诉，向他的人民倾诉，向他心中最高的神祇在倾诉。正因为如此，这首爱的牧歌才如此动听，如此撼动人心。
