Flags fly at half-staff at the base of the Washington Monument in memory of those who perished 2 aboard the space shuttle Columbia Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in Washington. Space shuttle Columbia broke apart over East Texas as it prepared to land at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida Saturday morning. All crew members perished in the disaster.
