An army veteran killed by Dallas police after the sniper's slayings of 5 policemen said that he wanted to kill white officers and that he acted alone. The shootings happened during a protest in response to the slayings of 2 black men by police earlier this week. Both were videotaped and widely distrubuted online.
President Barack Obama said that Americans are, quote, horrified 1 ver the events in Dallas, and that those responsible would be held fully 2 accountable. He spoke 3 from Warsaw where he was holding talks with NATO and European Union leaders.
And an attack on a Shiite shrine 4 north of Baghdad killed 37 people overnight Thursday with 62 people wounded. Civilians 5 had gathered inside the shrine to celebrate the end of Ramadan. The attack comes less than a week after a truck bombing in the capital that killed at least186 people. The Islamic State group claimed responibility for both.
The Barbarshop Harmony Society's international convention is underway in Nashville. And thousands of singers have descended 6 on the city for the cappella musical competition dating back to 1939.
