1.President Barack Obama is encouraging the nation's students to find what they are good at and stick with it. He spoke 1 to students at a high school in a Washington suburb. Other kids watched the speech on TV at schools nationwide. Conservative groups accused Obama of stepping too far into local education. Some school districts decided 2 not to show his speech.


2.Justice Sonia Sotomayer has taken her seat at the Supreme 3 Court. Chief Justice John Robert administered the oath of office. Tuesday's ceremony was just for show though. The justices will return Wednesday for the argument in a key case about campaign finance law.


3.Space shuttle Discovery has left the International Space Station. Discovery undocked from the space station Tuesday, ending more than a week of linked flight in which tons of supplies and equipment were dropped off.


4.Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez received a movie star welcome at the Venice Film Festival where he walked the red carpet with Director Oliver Stone for the premiere of a documentary Stone made about the South American leader. Hundreds of admirers were on hand.
