1. North Carolina's governor plans to tour areas of the state Monday that were hit hard by Saturday's ferocious 1 storm system that claimed at least 21 lives across the state. The violent weather began Thursday and killed at least 45 people across six states in the Southeast.
2. A wildfire that authorities believe was sparked by a homeless man's campfire destroyed eight homes and damaged 10 others in Austin, Texas. Authorities have a suspect and he's been charged with reckless endangerment.
3. Gulf 2 of Mexico's health is almost the same as it was before last year's Gulf oil spill. That's according to a survey of three dozen scientists who gave it a grade of 68 on average, compared with 71 out of 100 before the spill.
4. A new poll suggests growing optimism about the US economy. The National Association for Business Economics says the economy is gaining strength, despite political unrest in North Africa and the Middle East and the natural disaster in Japan.
