69 人权组织指责肯尼亚忽视父母因艾滋病去世的孤儿

Rights Group Accuses Kenya of Neglecting AIDS Orphans 1

A human rights group is (1)accusing the Kenyan government of (2)neglecting millions of children whose parents have died of AIDS. Human Rights Watch says thousands of Kenyan children are forced to seek work on the streets.
A Human Rights Watch report, called "In the Shadow of Death," says Kenya's government has failed to take responsibility for more than a million AIDS (3)orphans. When their parents fall sick, many of the children have to leave school to earn money to buy food.
Joanne Csete, author of the report, says some children are so (4)desperate they become (5)prostitutes. "We found a number of cases of children having to seek work on the streets, in small (6)commerce, in the worst cases in prostitution," she said. "We found a number of cases of girls who became domestic workers in other people's homes and also found themselves often in situations of abuse or potential abuse."
Ms. Csete says the government of Kenya must do more to keep children in schools and protect them from dangerous jobs.
"We have called upon the government of Kenya to respect its own commitment to free and (7)compulsory primary education," she said. "Keeping kids in school is an obvious way to safeguard some of their possibilities for the future and some of their present needs. The government of Kenya is not a ratifier 2 of the ILO convention, the International Labor 3 Organization Convention on Hazardous 4 Labor. In the face of the thousands and thousands of children who are having to become (8)breadwinners, it is really important for the most dangerous kinds of labor to be on the government's (9)agenda and for children to be protected from them."
Human Rights Watch also wants changes made in Kenya's (10)legal system. Many orphans, because of the way the system now works, are unable to (11)inherit their parents' property.
