Neil: Hello, this is Real English from BBC Learning 1 English, I’m Neil
Helen: And I’m Helen. Hello!
Neil: In Real English, we look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.
Helen: 和汉语一样，英语语言里是充满了成语和口语词的，所以学习和了解这些短语和口语词是非常有用的。尤其这些说法和语言都是英国人日常说到用到的。那Neil，我们今天要来学习的新词是什么呢？
Neil: Today’s expression is pants. P-A-N-T-S.
Helen: What? Pants, 不是短裤的意思吗？
Neil: Well, yes pants is another word for underwear 2 in British English but this is also a word that people use nowadays to mean rubbish.
Helen: Rubbish 就是没用、差劲儿的意思，那pants也是这个意思吗? Neil，你能给我们举个例子说说吗？
Neil: Well anything that you think is rubbish you can say 'pants'. I didn’t like the film, I thought it was pants.
Helen: 原来如果我们要说某件东西很没用，很没意思的话，我们就可以用Pants这个词。

B: Oh no, I guess you’ll have to buy a ticket today then.
A: Have you seen the news? The Madonna concerts have been cancelled!

Helen: 这么听来，Pants这个词的用法又不同了。就是如果某件不好的事情发生了，你可以用Pants来表达你胸中的不快或愤懑。就像咱们中国话说得“气死我了”“太倒霉了”一样。
