Neil: This is Real English from BBC Learning English. I’m Neil.
Helen: And I’m Helen.
Neil: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that have recently become part of the English language.
Helen: 今天的 Real English, 我们来学学英语中出现的新习惯用语。
Neil: English has a lot of vocabulary. One of the reasons for this is that new words are constantly coming into use.
Helen: 所以跟着 Real English 学英语是非常重要的。
Neil: Absolutely!
Helen: 今天要教我们什么新词儿啊，Neil.
Neil: Today’s new word is "hoody". – H.O.O.D.Y. – hoody.
Helen: Hoody, 是什么意思啊？
Neil: Well, a hoody is a teenage boy who typically wears a sweatshirt with a hood 1.
Helen: 哦，hoody就是指那些穿着运动衣裹着头巾戴着帽子的青少年。
Neil: Yes, but the name hoody has a negative sense for many people.
Helen: Hoody 是个贬义词，能不能再给我们解释解释，Neil。
Neil: Yes. Hoodies are often violent or commit crime.
Helen: Hoodies 就是那些特别不愤儿的暴力小混混儿，有那么厉害吗？
Neil: Yes. Hoodies are often responsible for violent crimes or street robberies.
Helen: 哦，这些叫 hoody 的人，就是那些爱找事儿的年轻人，他们其实才只有十几岁呀。
Neil: That’s right.
