Mygrandfather's clock was too large for the shelf
So it stoodninety years on the floor
It was tallerby half than the old man himself
Thought itweighed not a penny weight more
It was boughton the mom of the day that he was born
And was alwayshid treasure and pride
But it stoppedshort, never to go again
When the oldman died
In watchingit's pendulum swing to and for
Many hours hadhe spent while a boy
And inchildhood and manhood the clock seemed to know
And to shareboth his grief and his joy
For it strucktwenty-four when he entered at the door
With ablooming and beautiful bride
But it stoppedshort, never to go again, when the old man died
Ninety yearswithout slumbering (tick, tick, tick, tick)
His lifeseconds numbering (tick, tick, tick, tick) it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died
My grandfathersaid that old those he could hire
Not a servantso faithful he found
For it wastedno time and had but one desire
At the closeof each week-to be would
And it kept inits place, not a frown upon its face
And its handsnever hug by its side
But it stoppedshort, never to go again, when the old man died It rang an alarm in the dead ofthe night
An alarm thatfor years had been dumb
And we knewthat his spirit was pluming for flight
That his hourof departure had come
Still theclock kept the time with a soft and muffled chime
As we silentlystood by his side But it stopped short, never to go again, when the old mandied
