The main city in southern Afghanistan is dealing 1 with at least one militant 2 attack on police headquarters, but there are reports there were as many as four attacks around the city in a two-hour period. At least one person is dead and several others wounded. NATO and Afghan troops have been trying to gain control of Kandahar City, where Taliban influence is strong.


President Obama is using his weekly address to call for an end to tax breaks that encourage US companies to create jobs in other countries. He's plugging a bill that would do away with some tax credits for businesses with overseas operations and provide incentives 3 to increase jobs in the US.


"I want to give every business in American a tax break, so they can write off the cost of all new equipment they buy next year. That's going to make it easier for folks to expand and hire new people."


In the GOP weekly address, Bush-era tax cuts are at center stage.


Indiana Congressman 4 Mike Pence wants Congress back in session to take an immediate 5 vote on extending the cuts.


"The prosperity of the American people is more important than the political fortunes of any politician or any political party."


House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said the issue won't come up till after the November 2nd elections.


President Obama will spend this weekend campaigning in Massachusetts and Ohio. NPR's Ari Shapiro has more on the president's agenda.


In Boston today, President Obama will stop for Governor Deval Patrick. The two men both graduated from Harvard Law School and they’ve been friends for years. Patrick became the first African-American governor of Massachusetts four years ago. Now, he's running for re-election.
