The Federal Opposition 1 leader has praised elements of the Prime Minister's health plan. Kevin Rudd says the government will reward hospitals that exceed national benchmarks. Tony Abbott likes that idea, but wants more detail.

Lawyers say the case sends a clear message to schools and paves the way for similar compensation claims.

The High Court in London has awarded damages to a Russian oligarch after ruling that he'd been unfairly accused of the murder of a former Russian spy. In 2007, a broadcast on Russian State Television accused exiled businessman Boris Berezovsky of murdering Alexander Litvinenko who was poisoned in London. The court ruled there’s no evidence he took part in the murder.

And question marks are hanging over whether Michael Clarke will return to New Zealand to rejoin the Australian cricket tour. He was named in the squad 5 for the two tests series which kicks off next week. Captain Ricky Ponting has indicated he doesn't want him back in the side until he’s sorted out his off-field issues.

And there will be more news updates later in the day.
