Here is a look at how China has performed at the most recent Olympics.
China were second in the standings in London with 88 medals overall including 38 golds. That left them eight golds behind the United States, but leading hosts Great Britain by nine golds.
Diving proved to be the PRC's best event as the nation's athletes won 19 golds from 2004 to 2012. In Gymnastics, China claimed 15 golds in the last three editions. In badminton and table tennis they had 11 each, and in weightlifting, they collected 18 golds since the 2004 Athens Games, only one shy of the number they got in diving.
