 考生要熟知托福文章的宏观框架,从整体上hold住任何一篇考试文章。托福文章结构分为两类,一类是学术论文,以“立论、证据证明、驳论(再立论)”的循环方式打开;另一类是学术说明文,讲授某个科学知识,并不需要驳论,通常以“分类叙述加生动形象的例子展示”,或以“时间轴讲述加生动例子”的方式打开。今天的第一篇和第三篇文章就属于第一类,第二篇文章属于第二类。


  第一篇Day Length and Flowering Plants(白昼长度和开花植物),首段引出话题,描写植物能够感受季节变化,如秋季落叶。第二段开始立论,认为植物感知季节变化也许依靠气温和降雨,但是气温和降雨变化无常(capricious),并不是稳定信号(not reliable signals)(驳论)。而在任何纬度任何一天中恒定规律变化的是光照量,所以推测植物可能依靠光照量的变化来感知季节变化,这被称为植物的光周期现象(photoperiodism)(再立论)但最近研究发现,植物感知的并不是光照时间,而是连续黑暗的时间(驳论再立论)。更深入的研究发现,导致植物感受黑暗的是自身光敏色素(phytochrome)的存在。光敏色素分为两种形式:压制开花状态和促进开花状态。而连续黑暗时间的变化会诱导这两种形式的互相转化。(由表入里,挖掘根本原因)。
