You all have seen so much

You've witnessed this school's rebirth after the devastation 2 of Hurricane Katrina
你们见证了学校被卡特里娜飓风摧毁后的重建
the new buildings that replaced the ones you lost
老教学楼倒下 新教学楼竖起
the classrooms that started filling back up again
课堂上重新聚满了学生
the service projects that you all have done to help this community bounce 3 back
帮助社区的服务项目又开始重新开展
And I know along the way that each of you
我知道 这个过程中
has written your own story of resilience and determination to make it here to this day
你们每个人都有自己不屈和坚毅的故事
For example, as you heard

Nicole was told back in high school that she just wasn't college material
上高中时 有人说她不是读大学的材料
But now she is your class president
结果现在她成为了你们的学生主席
and she's headed off to Yale for her graduate degree

And I know that some of you may come from tough neighborhoods

some of you may have lost your homes during Katrina

Maybe you're like DeShawn Dabney

a graduate who was raised by his grandmother

maybe that's your grandmother, isn't it, DeShawn

Raised by his grandmother while some of his family members were dealing with issues

Maybe just like him, you've been working part-time jobs

since you were a teenager to make your dream of going to college come true
支撑着自己读大学的伟大梦想
And now, today, you're all here ready to walk across this stage and get that diploma
今天 你们通过了重重试炼 准备走过这里 获得文凭
And no matter what path you took to get here
无论经历过的道路有多艰难
you all kept your hearts set on this day
你们的梦想今天终究还是成为了现实
You fought through every challenge you encountered
你们经受住了重重挑战
and you earned that degree from this fine university

And in doing so, you are following in the footsteps of all those who came before you
