UNIT FOUR

Part One

Warm Up

Dialogue 1
  A和B去上健身课,A对健身教练特别欣赏,而B却十分讨厌这种流汗的气氛。

A: Isn’t he the best instructor 1? I think *he’s so ⑴ hot. ⑵Wow! I really feel energized 2, don’t you?
B: I swear, *I’m going to kill you for this.
A: What’s wrong? Didn’t you think it was fun?!
B: Oh, yeah! I had ⑶a blast! *I love sweating like a pig with a bunch of pot bellies 3 who all smell bad. Sorry, I’m just not into this health kick.
A: Oh, no, get off it. It wasn’t such a ⑷killer class. You just have to get into it. Like they say, *no pain, no gain.
B: I am ⑸wiped out. Thank you.
A: Look, next time get yourself some ⑹comfy shoes. You’re gonna come back again with me, aren’t you?
B: *Never! But thank you for inviting 4 me.
A: ⑺Come on. You’ll feel better after we hit the showers.

Dialogue 2
  A(Leo)和B(John)是学校同事,Leo对另一同事Jack 5总是把学生带到办公室,弄得办公室十分嘈杂的行为十分不满。

A: John, do you have a minute?
B: Oh, hi, Leo. Sure, *what’s up?
A: Well, I’ve been ⑴meaning to talk to you
about the situation in the office.
B: I’m not in there very often. It’s so noisy that
I can’t work.
A: That’s exactly what I’m getting at. ⑵We’re supposed to be able to do our preparation and marking in that office, but have you noticed? Jack constantly has students coming in to get help with his course. A lot people are going in and out.
B: Has anybody spoken to him about it?
A: No, not yet, but someone’s going to have to.
B: *We can’t really ask him to stop having students come in for help, can we?
A: *No, of course not. But I’m not able to do my work and neither are you.
B: ⑶How about recommending him to use the storage room down the hall?
A: Oh, that would be too small.
B: With the cabinets taken out, it might be bigger than it looks.
A: *Come to think of it, you may be on to something. ⑷Let’s go have a look.
B: ⑸Let’s rock n’ roll.
Dialogue 3
  Frank对Kathleen倾慕以久,他很委婉地表达了自己对她的欣赏,而Kathleen的回应令他失望。

Frank: *You’re a wonderful person, Kathleen.
Kathleen: *So you are.
Frank: And I’m so honored that you would want to be with me because you would never be with anyone who wasn’t truly worthy 6.
Kathleen: *I feel exactly the same way with you.
Frank: ⑴Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t say that. That, ⑵that makes it worse.
Kathleen: What? You don’t love me? Me, either.
Frank: You don’t love me?
Kathleen: No.
Frank: But ⑶we’re so right for each other.
Kathleen: I know, I know. Well, is there some, ⑷is there someone else? Oh, that woman on television, Sydney Ann.
