A new report from market research firm Deloitte is suggesting mergers 1 and acquisition in the Chinese technology, media and telecommunications sector 2 are expected to grow steadily 3 this year.

Deloitte is pointing to a desire for fresh funds from small-and-middle sized companies in developed countries, as well as the "Belt and Road" initiative as the main factors behind expectations for more mergers and acquisitions.

Last year, Chinese companies signed 729 overseas mergers and acquisitions deals, spending nearly 332 billion U.S. dollars on the roughly 500 deals which were made public.

The media, telecom, real estate, energy and minerals were the top choices for Chinese buyers.

For more on this, The Beijing Hour's Shane Bigham spoke 4 earlier with John Ross, Senior Fellow with the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University.
