Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos is calling for unity 1 in supporting his government's peace process with the country's FARC rebels to "assure its success" in the next several months.
In a televised address on the eve of an organized march against violence, Santos is expressing optimism his government is close to achieving a historic agreement with the group.
"It's normal that Colombians would be skeptical 2 after so many deceptions 3. But the truth is the process is going well. It is being worked on with patience and perseverance 4 in the editing of an accord that has never before been done with the FARC. It's a difficult and complex process. We will leave the delegations 5 to work in Havana without so much speculation 6. If the rhythm of the last weeks is maintained, it is perfectly 7 possible to conclude this work in months."
Santos is also suggesting they're getting closer to striking a peace deal with Columbia's second-largest rebel group, the National Liberation Army.
Speaking in Havana, Cuba, FARC Commander Pablo Catatumbo has issued his own call for solidarity 8 in the peace process.
"This is the hour to rise above whatever personal pettiness, whatever sordid 9 political calculation and to decidedly advance toward the building of a new Colombia, built among all and for he benefit of all."
Thousands are expected to march in Bogota later on this Tuesday to demand an end to violence and in solidarity with the victims of the conflict.
