10 people are dead after an Israel air strike hit near a UN school in Rafah,sheltering 3000 Gazans.The US and the UN are condemning 6 the action, calling for an investigation 7.Israel says it'll withdraw most of it groud troops in Gaza now that it's destroyed nearly all of Hamas's tunnels.Meanwhile a westbank based delegation 8 from Hamas has arrived in Egpyt for indirect ceasefire talks.As Mary Kennedy reports from Cairo,they're joining a delegation from the Palestinian authority.A 7-member Hamas delegation has arrived in Cairo,according to Egyptian state media.A US and UN brokered 9 ceasefire proposal called for talks in Egypt between Palestinian factions 10 and Israel.The ceasefire quickly crumble 11 on Friday with both sides blaming each other.Israeli news reports say that Israel will not be coming to Cairo for talks.Egyptian president Abdel Fatah al Sissi said yesterday that a ceasefire plan proposed by Egypt is the best chance to solve the crisis.Egypt has traditionally been at the forefront of negotiations 12 between Israel and Hamas.But the current government has tense relations with Hamas,viewing the group as an offshoot of the banned Muslim Brotherhood 13 Organization.For NPR news I'm Mary Kennedy in Cairo.
About a half million people in Toledo Ohio are still without drinking water due to high toxin 14 levels from algae 15 on Lake Erie.From member station WKSU,Kabir Bahtia reports.Algal blooms are fairly common on Lake Erie which supplies most of the water for Toledo,an hour west of Cleveland.City officials have warned against drinking or even touching 16 the water since early Saturday.And boiling will actually increase the toxin's concentration.Govenor John Kasich has declared a state of emergency and dispatched the national guard to the Toledo area after stores of the area and over the border in Michigan began running out of bottled water.In response,Cleveland officials say the water there is safe to drink,since it comes from Lake Erie's eastern basin.For NPR news,I'm Kabir Bahtia.
More belongings 17 have been recovered from the wreckage 18 site of the downed Malaysia Airlines flight 17 in eastern Ukraine.But the head of the team of international investigators 19 said no additional human remains 20 were found today.The recovery was initially 21 slowed by fighting between pro-Russian separatist rebels and Ukrainian forces.Flight 17 was shot down July 17th killing 22 all 298 people on board.

President Obama will make a decision by the end of the summer on how to use his authority to address border crisis with tens of thousands of immigrants in the US illegally.That's after congress failed to act before heading out for a 5-week summer recess 23.Dan Pfieffer says the president is waiting for recommendations from Attorney General Eric Holder 24 and Homeland Secretary Jeh Johnson.But he says any actions Obama says will be within the confines of the law.
Chinese state media say more than 100 people were killed in violence that broke out in the country's northwest last week.As NPR's Frank Langfitt reports,death continue to mount in the Muslim minority region despite a huge government security presence there.Authorities say hundreds of people armed with knives and axes attacked police stations and government offices last Monday in the far northwestern region of Xinjiang.Police say the attackers targeted civilians 25 and passing cars in Kashgar Prefecture,near the border with Tajikistan and Afghanistan.Police say they shot 59 attackers and arrested 215 others.37 civilians were killed.On Wednesday in a separate incident,police say muslim extremists stabbed to death the pro-government Imam of China's largest Mosque 26 in the city of Kashgar.And on Friday,in yet another clash,police say they killed 9 suspected terrorists.Chinese government is blaming nearly all the region's violence on Muslims seeking a separate state.Frank Langfitt NPR news Shanghai.
