Secretary of Defence Chuck Hago says the US is deploying 1 two missile defence destroyers to Japan. As John Matthews reports,Hago made the pledge in Tokyo today as he tried to boost Japan's confidence in the US military commitment to its security.
Secretary Hago says the destroyers are precautionary measures to what he calls Pyongyong's pattern of provocative 2 action, referring to its UN-resolution-violating missile launches.A combination of missile threats from North Korea, disputes with its neighbours and America's own military inaction in Crimea has Japan on edge, according to analysts 3.They say Tokyo needs assurances that Washington is committed to defending its long-time ally. The next leg of Secretary Hago's Asian tour takes him into China where he says he'll use the opportunity to warn Beijing against its aggressive moves in the Pacific.China and Japan are currently locked in a heated territorial 4 dispute over resource-rich islands in the east China sea. From NPR news,I'm John Matthews in Tokyo.

Israeli prime minister XX is accusing Palestinian officials of violating the terms of peace negotiations 9 as NPR's Emily Harris reports from XX efforts to extend the talks that started last summer are floundering.
XX blamed Palestinian authority president XX for the talk's breakdown 10.He claimed Abbas's decision to apply for membership in international treaties was a unilateral move outside the terms'agreed-on talks.Palestinian officials note that Israel had first failed to fulfill 11 another term for negotiations, freeing 26 Palesitinian prisoners convicted of involvement in killing 12 Israelis.Natenyahu suggested that Israel may also take what he called unilateral actions. He wasn's specific. But Israeli media reports say that if talks do not continue,Israel might withhold 13 tax revenue Israel collects on behalf of the Palestinian authority,or perhaps stop efforts to improve cellular 14 technology in the Palestinian territories.Emily Harris,NPR news,XX.
