Half dozen Republicans joining the all voting Senate Democrats 1 this evening to fill a filibuster 2 measure that without law work place discrimination on the basis of sexual identity or orientation 3. NPR’s David Welna explains passage of employment’s non-discrimination act is now expected in the Senate but the House leaders remain opposed to the bill.
It has been 17 years since the Senate last vote on ENDA. It failed then by one vote. The bipartisan votes that move the measure forward signals it likely pass it later this week. Maine Republican Susan Collins is one of this bill’s co-sponsors.
It is far pass time that we and discrimination in the workplace against lGBT and debate through all of this.
The measure would apply to all public employers except the Pentagon and all private firms with at least 15 employees though religious organizations are excluded. Authorities say the gunman charged the deadly shooting of TSA agent at Los Angeles international airport was dropped off at LAX by his roommate. NPR’s Kirk Siegler reports that revelations include the newly released court documents.
In the FBI’s affidavit 5 and support of searching warrant of suspect Anthony Paul Ciancia’s cellphone, authorities say the 23 years old roommate dropped him off at the LAX at Friday morning. Ciancia had entered the roommate’s room unannounced and asked for a ride to the airport. The roommate told the authorities he did not Cianica’s plan to target TSA agent and only learned about the shooting when he get back to their apartment. Moments after he was dropped off, Cianica allegedly took an assault rifle out of his bag and fired multiple rounds point blank at TSA officer inside the terminal. Authorities say he also shot and wounded three other people. The affidavit also says Ciancia was concerned about so-called “new world order” backing up earlier statement by authorities that shooting spree could be motivated by Ciancia’s anti-government beliefs. SAC Capital Advisors 6, major investment firm, is agreeing to plead guilty to fraud charges stop handling individual investments and pay 1.2 billion-dollar NNNN with inside trading charges. Attorney Preet Bharara says the hedge funds headed by Wall Street trader Steve Cohen will pay 900 million fines, approximately 600 million the company already paid and forfeit 8 another 900 million to the federal government.
