Thousands on the eastern seaboard emerged to a sunny winter's day following a mammoth 1 snowstorm that dropped near-record snowfall across several major US cities Saturday. The number of death blamed on the storm had reached at least 29.
A magnitude 7.1 earthquake rattled 2 southcentral Alaska early Sunday, knocking items off shelves and walls and leaving residents startled in the quake-prone region. No injuries were reported however 4 homes in Kenai were lost to explosions or fire.

And just as officials worked together to get their cities back to normal by the new week, locals took advantage of the fresh powder for some snow day fun. Some even going as far as planning corrdinated snowball fights and slidding down the Lincoln Memorial.
