Man What a lovely place! This is one of the most beautiful hotels in the world.
Woman Yes, it is. The hotel was named after the famous Queen Cleopatra.
Man I see. How far is it from here to the beach?
Woman Only a two-minute walk. In fact you can enjoy the view of the sea from your room.
Man Good. It's quite warm today. How hot is it here in the hottest month of the year?
Woman About 28。C.
Man That would be quite comfortable then.
Woman Look, Mr Harris. This is the Great Pyramid 1.
Man Oh, yes.., it looks very high!
Woman It's about 137 meters high.
Man How long are the sides?
Woman They're 230 meters.
Man It's incredible 2! How old is it?
Woman It's nearly four and half thousand years old.
man Can we go inside?
Woman I'm sorry, Mr Harris. It's under repair these days. You'll have to wait for another time.
man What a pity!
Woman 'We're going through the Suez Canal 3 now, Mr Harris.
Man Hmm... it doesn't look very wide. How wide is it?
Woman It's about 60 meters wide. and it's 162 kilometers long. You know, the canal was the work of some hundred thousand laborers 4 150 years ago.
Man Really? But this is a big ship. The Canal must be quite deep, I think.
Woman The average depth 5 is about 15 meters and 80-ton ships can go through it. And they're making it deeper.
Man That would be a very hard job, I'm sure.
Woman Yes, it is. Well, Mr Harris, are you coming on the excursion 6 to Cairo 7 today?
Man Oh, yes. How far is it?
Woman It's about 150 kilometers.
Man Good. How long will it take to get there?
Woman Only three hours.
Man Excellent. Thank you very much for explaining all this to me.

We Enjoyed Ourselves Very Much

We le{t London on June 21st and flew to Athens 8 on a British Airways 9 flight. We left London at about 11 : 00 in the morning and arrived in Athens at about 3 : 00 in the afternoon. It was raining in London when we left, but it was fine and warm in Athens. After we came out of the airport building we took a taxi to the town center. We stayed for three nights at a hotel. While we were in Athens we visited some of the sights: the world famous Parthenon, and the National Museum, and we went to a concert.
On our fourth day we went to Athens Airport early in the morning and took an Olympic flight to a beautiful Greek 10 island, Santorini. We stayed at a small hotel in the capital of the island. The hotel was very high up and we had a wonderful view of the sea and the island. We enjoyed the typical Greek food in the hotel's restaurant and we enjoyed walking down the beaches, too.
After we had spent a week on this island, we flew back to Athens for another three nights. We visited a fishing village on a small island near Athens. We also went to a tavern 11 in the city where we met many local Greeks 12. We talked to them and had a nice evening with them.
Then we flew back to London on an Athens Airways flight. It was a wonderful holiday and we enjoyed ourselves very much.
