Malcolm Turnbull has reaffirmed his position as Opposition 1 Leader in the wake of yesterday's gruelling party room meeting. Mr. Turnbull says his party agrees with him on doing a deal with the government on the emissions 2 trading scheme. But some Liberal MPs say their leader does not have the majority backing. Mr. Turnbull's supporters say he's done the right thing on emissions trading.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government says hundreds of thousands of students will miss out on income support if the Senate continues to block changes to youth allowance. The government is likely to have another go at passing the bill before Parliament rises for the summer break.
China has executed two people for their role in a scandal involving tainted 3 milk powder. Six children died as a result and more than 300,000 got sick. The men were convicted of selling more than 770 tons of the contaminated milk.
And a new report has warned that climate change is accelerating beyond the previous scientific forecasts. The study says the rise in sea levels may be as high as two meters by the end of the century.
