[01:19.89]Now in China,he has found that his family 

[01:22.91]is like a tall tree with long roots.

[01:25.99]Robert is just one young overseas 4 Chinese

[01:29.00]who has come to visit his ancestors'homeland,

[01:31.76]as part of the In Search of Roots summer camp

[01:34.82]program.

[01:36.10]The program is organized by the local government

[01:38.90]of Guangdong Province.

[01:40.93]This program started in 1980,

[01:43.61]and so far has brought thousands of overseas

[01:46.46]Chinese students to China

[01:48.27]to look of their families' roots.

[01:51.29]The young people are usually between 16 and 25

[01:54.42]years old.

[01:55.67]Most,like Robert,can hardly speak any Chinese

[01:59.61]and have never been to China before.

[02:02.99]The students mainly 5 visit parts of Guangdong

[02:05.18]Province in southern China.

[02:08.19]During the two-week camp,they study Chinese

[02:10.35]culture,see changes that have happened

[02:13.20]in that area,and visit interesting sights.

[02:19.74]most exciting part of the trip.

[02:22.74]the students feel that they are part of the

[02:24.78]village,and experience village life.

[02:30.39]go for walks through the countryside,

[02:37.73]Cathy Qin,a young American students,

[02:40.46]had this to say,"Thanks to In Search of Roots,

[02:44.98]I am beginning to understand my Chinese roots

[02:48.09]and who I am.

[02:49.79]It has been a great trip,and I have so many

[02:53.42]memories of China to take with me."

[02:56.44]The program leaders believe strongly in the

[02:58.87]program and say that the purpose of it is to

[03:02.20]give young overseas Chinese the chance to learn

[03:05.20]more about themselves.
