Dialogues

A. Here Is Your Schedule
Chen is visiting London. His tour guide Diana is explaining his schedule for sightseeing on Saturday.
Diana: At 9:30 Saturday morning, we'll go out for a walk. We'll walk through the great parks of London.
Chen: Can we visit Buckingham Palace?
Diana: Of course, and you can also see the Changing of the Guard.
Chen: That's wonderful!
Diana: In the afternoon we'll visit the British Museum.
Chen: Great! There must be a lot to see.

B. Let's Discuss Our Arrangement
The Robinsons have just arrived in Beijing for a 5-day conference. Hua, the receptionist, is discussing their schedule with them.
Mr. Robinson: Can we possibly see something of Beijing after the meeting?
Hua: Yes, of course. We'll arrange a day trip next Tuesday to the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall.
Mr. Robinson: And the Forbidden City?
Hua: That's on Wednesday. We'll show you around the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace.
Mrs. Robinson: It sounds marvelous! But we'd also like to visit other cities.
Hua: We've planned a journey to Beidaihe and Tangshan on Thursday.

Passage
Holidays Abroad

People in Britain like holidays. They used to spend their summer holiday at British resorts. But nowadays they prefer to go abroad.
Students have the opportunity to travel abroad in school or student groups.
Sometimes they go on a day trip across the Channel to France, and some may go swimming in Spain in summer or skiing in Italy in winter. A lot of families choose a camping holiday. It is the cheapest and easiest kind of vacation for a family with children.
Spain is a popular holiday country with the British, either in summer or in winter. Many families try to have a winter holiday abroad, because they want to escape the bad British weather. It's said that it costs them more to stay in Britain and pay heating bills than to have a holiday in Spain.
