首先，我们学一个短语：learn sth. by sth. 从什么中学到什么
learn by other men’s mistakes 从别人的错误中学习。
值得注意的是，这是一个省略句，fools by their own, 省略的learn和mistakes, 应该是 fools learn by their own mistakes. 这样的省略在前后结构相似的一句话中常出现。
wise men learn by other men’s mistakes, fools by their own.
聪明人从别人的错误中得到教训， 笨人则自己付出代价，他山之石可以攻玉。
